Chris Kirkby

Since moving to the Peruvian Amazon in 1995, having graduated from Edinburgh University, Chris has been a dedicated naturalist, environmental consultant and educator and has undertaken research for a plethora of organisations including WWF, Conservation International as well as the Peruvian government. During this time he has established links with virtually all research stations, tour operators and lodge owners and countless researchers in the province of Madre de Dios. He has helped set-up research projects at almost all of the research stations mentioned on this site though has been more closely associated with Explorer's Inn, one of the first jungle lodges and research stations to operate in the Peruvian Amazon, where he worked as their principle ecological networker, consultant and research co-ordinator for three years. He has also taught on guide training courses at a number of the featured lodges. His enthusiasm, understanding of the area and contacts mean that he is uniquely well placed to source and guarantee research and training placements. He is currently finishing his PhD studies investigating the ecological and economic impacts of the Interoceanica Highway. Chris is based in Puerto Maldonado, Peru. He is married to Sandra and they have a little girl.
